3DCP in Practice: Bringing Organic Architecture to Life in Valašské Meziříčí, the 'Lípa' Sculpture
On the château terraces in Valašské Meziříčí, Oldřich Morys has created an exceptional work that brings architecture, art and advanced construction technology together. The installation was made using 3DCP (3D Concrete Printing), based on a 3D drone scan of the remains of an original lime tree. It introduces an entirely new kind of experience to the public realm, a sculptural space that is not merely seen, but also experienced.
Architecture Beyond Conventional Forms
3D concrete printing opens up design possibilities that were, until quite recently, difficult to achieve in terms of balancing technology and cost. The installation on the terraces with its organic contours, seamless transitions and hollow forms offers a glimpse of where contemporary architecture could be heading. By removing the need for traditional form work, 3DCP can significantly shorten construction time while using less material, potentially reducing overall consumption by several tens of percent compared with conventional methods. The result is greater efficiency and a considerably lower environmental impact.
A Sculpture to Enter and Experience
The installation on the château terraces is far more than a construction project. Part sculpture, part urban furniture, it invites visitors to step inside, walk through it and discover the surrounding space from a different perspective.
After dark, subtle lighting brings the structure to life, revealing the layered texture of the printed concrete and creating a striking visual presence. By day, its organic form sits naturally within the surrounding landscape.
Technology Reshaping Construction
3D concrete printing is one of the most rapidly advancing technologies in today’s construction industry. By combining speed, precision and creative freedom, it is opening up new possibilities not only for architecture, but also for infrastructure and public space.
Key benefits include:
Shorter construction times
Lower costs and reduced material consumption
High manufacturing precision and uniform repeatability
The ability to create complex geometries
As a result, 3DCP is providing a different perspective, a new realm, for the way we think about buildings and the role they can play.
VOXELL: From Concept to Completion
The project in Valašské Meziříčí shows how digital design, parametric modelling and production can be combined in a single, continuous workflow. VOXELL has been exploring advanced technologies in construction and design for many years, developing projects from the initial idea through to their final realisation.
This project marks another step towards making 3D printing a natural part of the public sphere not simply a technological curiosity, but a fully-fledged sculptural and architectural tool.
"This project brings 3D printing closer to becoming an integral part of the public sphere, not simply a technological novelty, but a fully-fledged sculptural and architectural tool.."
